Referendum Voting Information
Ballot Questions
To achieve the improvements desired by our community, the Bartlett Public Library District Board of Trustees voted July 23 to place the following two referendum questions on the ballot in the upcoming November 3rd general election:
Renovation/Addition Project
“Shall the Bartlett Public Library District, DuPage and Cook Counties, Illinois, remodel the existing library and build an addition thereto and, in connection with such remodeling and expansion, increase available shelving and storage, the size of dedicated spaces for youth, teens and adults and the number of study/conference rooms, provide for community/programming rooms, construct accessibility improvements for Americans with Disabilities Act compliance and upgrade existing technology systems, furnish necessary equipment therefor and construct site improvements thereto, and issue its bonds to the amount of $22,200,000 for the purpose of paying the costs thereof?”
New Library Project
“Shall the Bartlett Public Library District, DuPage and Cook Counties, Illinois, construct a new library building on the north side of the existing library site with new shelving, storage and technology systems, dedicated spaces for youth, teens and adults, study/conference rooms and community/programming rooms, furnish necessary equipment therefor and construct site improvements thereto, demolish the existing library building, and issue its bonds to the amount of $45,000,000 for the purpose of paying the costs thereof?”
During more than 18 months of community engagement, residents were split between requesting additions and renovations to repair and expand the existing 43-year-old library, or to build a larger, modern library on land next to the current facility.
The initial phase of engagement showed residents leaning more towards expanding the current library, while the most recent engagement showed residents favoring a new library. That's why this November, two questions will appear on the ballot, in an effort to empower our community to choose the path forward.
